GOALS: 
  • Halt production of further cancerous cells in marrow and elsewhere (reduction in monoclonal/m protein, beta-2-microglobulin, serum free light chains, and IgG lab MM markers).

  • Decrease overall inflammation and cellular inflammation, (cytokine and IL-6 decrease).
  • Support the immune system.

SUPPLEMENT NOTES/TIPS:  Petunia's doctor from Ohio State University Department of Integrative medicine stressed a gluten-free diet, no processed soy, and decreasing omega-6s in diet while increasing/balancing with omega 3  fatty acids.

PETUNIA FROG EYE'S DAILY ROUTINE/DIET
1.  Vitamins/supplements throughout the day.
2.  Gluten free diet/cutting back omega 6's integrative medicine doctor.
3.  Organic toxin free whole foods (see To Avoid list below)
4.  Daily cup of organic green tea or black tea. 
5.  Nettle leaf/spearmint infusion.  (see below for recipe). Drink over ice or room temp, a cup or so a day. 
6.  Ten organic raw almonds (EFA’s, protein) daily
7.  One handful of organic trail mix:  sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, dried cranberries and dried pineapple (EFA’s, fiber, phyto-nutrients, minerals, vitamins)
8.  Walk/exercises.
9.  Twenty minutes of sunshine daily on bare skin.  Fresh air.
10  Stay in touch with friends & family - positivity.

Other tips/changes made:  
The changes below were made slowly over time.  Petunia Mom's goal remains to continue decreasing the toxic burden on the body so that her body has less deal with/get rid of/process and then can be more efficient at healing the body and fighting cancer.  Even those going with conventional chemotherapy or other treatment for cancer can only benefit by decreasing toxic burden and getting adequate vitamins and minerals.  Some oncologist/cancer doctors will not want patients on supplements, saying they could feed the cancer or cause the body/immune system to not respond to the chemotherapy.  One needs to remember there are no studies out there that actually prove this theory (if anyone finds such a study, let me know!).  It  must be noted that there are SOME studies on SOME supplements that have been proven to interfere with efficacy of conventional therapies for cancer - ask your doctor, but also do your own researchWe firmly believe that strengthening the body through nontoxic food and supplements will help the body fight cancer and also to better withstand any chemotherapy or conventional treatment. 

Some more tips:
1.  Start reading ingredients/labels.  Keeps a list of things to avoid in car/purse, etc. Educate yourself about your cancer - knowledge is power. 
2.  Whole organic foods, less processed/boxed foods. 
 a.  Choose organic milk, cheese, eggs, yogurt.
 b.  If eating boxed/processed foods, choose organic
 c.  Meats:  Less meat.  Choose grass fed - no soy feed/no antibiotic/no steroids, etc.  Find local farmers who do not use antibiotics/steroids. 
 d.  Fish:  Eat more. Read up on fish to avoid.  Avoids farmed fish and those that contain high amounts of heavy metals/mercury.
 e.  Organic fruits & veggies.  Increased her intake of cancer fighting organic veggies and fruits, especially cruciferous veggies (barely to lightly steamed), and seed containing berries.
3.  Decrease unhealthy omega 6's by eating less/avoiding processed food that contains corn, safflower, soybean, sunflower, cottonseed oils.  Avoiding baked goods and highly processed foods will cut down on omega 6s.  When consumed, choose organic.
4. Sugar intake decreased significantly.  Use organic sugars/honey only.  There is thought that sugar feeds cancer - and numerous reputable websites that refuse this point.  ALL cells need sugar to survive, so this is a bit of a myth.  Decreasing sugar in general is good for any of us, especially high fructose corn syrup, but indulging and enjoying organic sweets is not an issue - I believe.  Please send me websites if anyone finds irrefutable proof! 
5. Cut out soda.  Okay are organic juices in moderation.  
6.  See the avoid list below.

WHAT PETUNIA MOM AVOIDS  
These things are avoided to decrease the toxic burden on body and allow it to heal/fight cancer.   Read labels/ingredients and learn what to avoid. 


1.  Avoid stress as well as nay-saying negative people.  Make changes as necessary!
2.  Avoid ALL artificial sweeteners.   Just Say No to Splenda, Sweet and Low, or Equal. No diet drinks.  No agave. 
3.  Avoid nitrates/nitrites by avoiding pepperoni, salami, lunch meats, hot dogs, bacon, sausage, etc.  Read ingredients.  Find brands without these ingredients (see organic or natural food aisles - brands include Applegate Farms).
4.  Avoid FD&C food coloring. 
5.  Avoid hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fat/oil (Crisco, candy bars, everything - read ingredients on everything!)
6.  Avoid high fructose corn syrup. No agave. Use organic sugars, honey, and maple syrup sparingly. 
7.  Avoid all GMO (genetically modified ).  Choose organic foods, as by definition, organic foods cannot contain GMO foods.  Look for non-GMO label.
8.  Avoid all highly processed soy products including soy milk, fake soy cheese, unfermented tofu,  soyburgers, soy hot dogs, etc.   
Better soy products include:  Fermented soy, i.e. tamari, miso, fermented tofu, edamame. 
9.  Personal care products (soap, shampoo, deodorants, conditioner, toothpaste, sunscreen, lotions).  Read labels.  Google toxic ingredients to avoid in personal care products yields much information.  
10.  Avoid phalates, BPA, pesticides, herbicides.  Rodale Institute has a great E-letter to subscribe to where you can learn all about healthy practices to avoid toxins in your food and surroundings.  Start out slowly and keep ditching the toxins!
11.  Avoid  fluoride in toothpaste.  
12.  Ditch plastic water bottles.  Use stainless steel or glass.  
13.  Never use plastic (even "microwave" safe) in microwave. 

Important:  If you don't read labels, start!  Keep  your glasses handy for that tiny print.  If you don't know what an ingredient is,  jot it down, look it up on the internet when you get home. 
I think it is author Michael Pollan who says if your grandmother would not recognize what it is (or you don't) - don't eat it!

RECIPE: 
Nettle infusion: 
 3/4 to 1 cup organic dried nettles 
1 T organic dried spearmint leaf /peppermint/or lemon balm for flavor.  


Place herbs into quart canning jar.  Place in sink (sometimes jar will break when hot water hits the glass).  Fill jar to top with boiling water and lid tightly.  Steep for minimum of 4 hours, preferably overnight.  Strain, refrigerate, and drink.  Use within 24-36 hours.  One cup or more each day.  Use the strained herb in the garden, under bushes, compost, or houseplants.
